In social linguistics, discourse analysis and stylistics, the generalization of a term well established in artistic and literary criticism for an identifiable category literary composition (e.g. poetry, detective story). The extended use refers to any formally distinguishable variety that has achieved a level of general recognition, whether in speech or writing, such as commercial advertising, jokes and sermons.

社会语言学、话语分析、风格学中一个公认的通用术语，用于文艺批评，指文学作品可辨认的类别（如诗歌体、侦探小说体）。引申指任何形式上可区分的、得到一定程度公认的语言变体，不管是口头的还是书面的，例如商业广告、笑话、布道等。
