【1】 增加
① The price specified shall be increased or decreased by the addition or substraction of such freight increase or decrease.
所列的价格应随运费的增减而增减。
② addition与add相同,常接用介词to。
【例】 Shortly after we had sent the Contract No.SF-5678 to you, our end-users telephoned to us asking for addition of some items to the said Contract.
我们寄出SF-5678号合同给你方后不久,用户来电话要求增加一些(订货)项目。
【2】 in addition to除……外
in addition to中的to是介词,后面可接用名词和动名词。
【例】 In addition to the Guangzhou Fair held regularly four times a year, there are “ mini-fairs” be held irregularly at appropriate places.
除每年定期举行四次广交会外,还不定期地在合适地点举办一些小型交易会。

额外的,另加的
【例】Please send this order by air parcel post. I realize that the postage charges will be additional.
请用航空邮包寄送这笔订货。我知道邮寄费用是另加的。
address
【1】 地址,通信处
① 邮寄包裹和信封上的所谓address,有时包括收信人的姓名,有时不包括。
【例】 Please put the full address on the parcel.
请在包裹上写上收件人的详细地址。
② address前面的介词at。
【例】I shall write to him at his old address.
我将按他旧的通信地址给他写信。
【2】 给……写信
① I am addressing you on an important subject.
我现在给你们写信,要讨论一个重要问题。
② 表示“(在信封等之上)写地址”“致(函等)”时,用介词to引出间接宾语。
【例】 We address this letter to you in order to ascertain whether cooperation to the advantage of both parties would be established.
为查明能否建立对你我双方都有利的合作关系,特此函达(你方)。
【3】 提出(抱怨、责备等)
用to引出间接宾语。
【例】 Please address your complaints to the manager, not to me.
如有怨言,请向经理提出,不要向我提。
【4】 address oneself to致力于,谈谈
这种用法,语言比较正式(formal)。
【例】 We should like to address ourselves to the procedure of effecting payment through a third country bank here.
我们想谈谈通过此地一家第三国银行付款的程序问题。
