【1】告知收到

 

①【例】Please acknowledge this cheque as soon as you receive it.

收到该支票后，请立即告知。

 

②【例】We send you by separate mail a copy of Certificate of Quality No.123, please acknowledge receipt.

现另邮寄去第123号品质证明书复印件一份，请确认收到。

（中文书信中提到寄上某物时，常说“请查收”，其含义与acknowledge receipt不同。）

 

③We acknowledge your letter of July l. = We acknowledge (the) receipt of your letter of July l.

7月1日来信已收到。

这两句都是商业英语书信中常用的开头句（opening sentences），不过acknowledge一词文义庄重，若非正式文书，可改写为：We have received your letter of July 1.

 

④以上各例句中acknowledge无“感谢”的含义。如欲使语言更加客气，可加with thanks等

【例】We have the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated July l, for which we are much obliged.

我们很高兴收到7月1日来信，非常感谢。

不过，这类句子比较累赘，不宜多用，不如用Thank you for your letter...或We have received your letter...简洁、明快。

 

【2】感谢

后面常接with sth或by sth。

 

【例】We acknowledge his helpful service with a present.

我们用一件礼品感谢他有益的服务。

 

【3】承认，认可

 

【例】You have done it unilaterally. We do not acknowledge it.

你们单方面做的事，我们不承认。

 

acknowledg(e)ment

【1】回执，表示收到的通知

 

①We have not yet received payment of your outstanding balance of £247, neither have we received a written acknowledgement of our letter of 15th November.

我们迄今尚未收到你方偿付余额247英镑的款项，也未收到11月15日去信的回执。

 

②下面是商业书信中的开头句，意思相同，但语句陈旧，不宜仿效。

【例】We have for acknowledgement your letter of February 10.

= We make acknowledgement to your letter of February 10.

= Acknowledgement is made to your letter of February 10.

2月10日来信收悉。

 

③下列两句意思相同，后者较陈旧，不及前者使用普遍。

【例】Your early acknowledgement will be highly appreciated.

= An acknowledgement in due course will be obliged.

如蒙能尽早来信确认收到，则不胜感谢。

【例】We extend our cordial acknowledgement to you.

我们对贵方表示衷心的感谢。

 

acquaint

【1】使……知道

 

①常用于acquaint sb with中。

【例】We want to acquaint ourselves with the supply position of steel products.

我们想了解钢铁产品的供应情况。

 

②当acquaint sb后接that从句时，不用with。

【例】We acquaint you that we have established ourselves as commission merchants for Chinese goods at the above address.

现通知你方，我们已在上述地址创设了经营中国货品的佣金商号。

 

【2】be acquainted (with)了解，认识

 

【例】We are not acquainted with these articles.

我们不熟悉这些商品。

注意be acquainted with是用于表示状态（state）的，如欲表示一时的动作（开始了解）时，则用become [get] acquainted with。

【例】Your visit to our factory would enable you to become acquainted with the high quality of materials and workmanship put into our products.

你们参观我厂，定会使你们了解我方产品所使用的材料和工艺都是优越的。
