M.V., M/V, m.v.

轮船

 

①M.V.、M/V或m.v.原为merchant vessel（商船）或motor vessel（内燃机船）的缩写词，加于船名之前，一般可不加区分译为“……轮”或“……船”。

【例】M.V. “Anthas” carried a shipment of sugar from Santiago de Cuba to Xingang.

安撒斯号轮载有一批食糖，从古巴圣地亚哥驶往新港。

 

②船名前可加或不加the。

【例】The consignment of ammonium sulphate shipped per (the) M/V “Peace” sustained great damage.

由和平号轮运载的一批硫酸铵受到很大损失。

【例】Through the courtesy of J. Brown & Co., we have your name as a firm who is interested in doing business with us.

承蒙J. 布朗公司告知贵公司名号，并称贵公司愿同我公司开展业务。

 

【2】名声，名誉

 

常用单数形式。

①【例】Our corporation has won a good name as an experienced supplier of renowned products of the world for big department stores.

我公司为各大百货店采办世界名产，经验丰富，享有很高的声誉。

 

②后面可接用for。

【例】That corporation has (got) a name for good commercial integrity.

该公司以其商业信誉好而著称。

 

【3】in one’s name 以……

 

【例】We have got the goods stored and insured in your name and for your account.

该货我们已以你方名义代为储存与保险，费用将由你方负担。

 

【4】列举

 

①【例】If we ask the buyers for a bid, most probably they will name a low price.

如果我们要求买主递价，他们很可能要递个低价。

 

②过去分词置于名词后面作定语。

【例】Will you please give us your prices for the quantity named?
