2019年1月5日，中国国务委员兼外交部长王毅成功访问冈比亚。访冈期间，王毅分别同巴罗总统、坦加拉外长举行了会见、会谈，双方共同回顾了中冈复交2年多来双边关系发展取得的丰硕成果，展望了两国未来合作的美好前景。
On the 5th of January 2019, H.E. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China paid a successful official visit to The Gambia. During the visit, Mr. Wang called on H.E. President Adama Barrow and held a bilateral talk with Hon. Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara. They reviewed the fruitful outcomes of the development of China-Gambia bilateral relations since the resumption of diplomatic ties over 2 years ago, and looked into the bright promise of the future cooperation between our two countries.
中国外长每年首次出访都选择非洲，这已成为中国外交的一大特色。近三十年来，中国持之以恒这么做，最重要的原因就是中国和包括冈比亚在内的非洲国家同为发展中国家，一直都是患难与共、相互扶持的兄弟和伙伴。
It has become a major feature of China’s diplomacy for Chinese foreign ministers to choose Africa for their first overseas visits each year. The most important reason for this persistent practice over nearly three decades is that China and African countries including The Gambia, as developing countries, have always been brothers and partners that share weal and woe, and enjoy mutual support.
王毅此访是中国外长首次到访冈比亚，巴罗总统称赞此举显示了中国对发展中冈关系的诚意和决心。他还称中国是“冈比亚最重要的合作伙伴”，感谢中国为冈经济发展提供的巨大帮助，重申冈比亚坚决奉行一个中国原则，将继续在联合国等多边场合坚定支持中国政府的正当立场。
Mr. Wang Yi’s visit to The Gambia was the first one paid by a Chinese foreign minister, which was praised by President Barrow as showing “the Chinese side’s sincerity and determination to develop bilateral relations”. President Barrow also called China “the most important cooperative partner of The Gambia”, expressed thanks to China for its abundant assistance to the economic development of The Gambia, and reiterated the Gambian side’s adherence to the one-China principle and continuous firm support to Chinese government’s just position on international affairs.
王毅高度评价快速全面发展的中冈关系，他表示，事实证明中冈复交是正确的决定，完全符合两国和两国人民的根本利益，完全符合时代潮流。中方愿与冈方不断增进互信，在涉及彼此核心利益和重大关切的问题上相互坚定支持。
Mr. Wang Yi praised the rapid and comprehensive development of China-Gambia bilateral relations, and said that facts had proved that the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and The Gambia was a correct decision that was in the fundamental interests of our two countries and peoples, and totally conforms to the trend of the times. Mr. Wang expressed China’s willingness to continuously increase mutual trust with The Gambia, and to firmly support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests.
王毅此访取得圆满成功和丰硕成果，再次证明了中冈友谊牢不可破。近来某些域外国家蓄意抹黑中非合作，冈政府仍坚定奉行对华友好政策，而非被挑拨所惑、杂音所扰。当今世界，单边主义不断抬头，国际规则受到挑战。冈比亚显然认识到如果任由这种形势发展，广大发展中国家正当权益将严重受损，因而对中国寄予了更大期待。坦加拉外长说，“中国是捍卫多边体系、维护发展中国家利益的唯一希望”。中方愿同冈方一道，共同捍卫多边主义规则，共同推动国际关系民主化。
Mr. Wang Yi’s visit was successful and the outcomes were fruitful, which once again proved the China-Gambia friendship to be unbreakable. Facing the recent deliberate denigration of China-Africa cooperation by certain non-regional countries, the Gambian government upheld friendly policies toward China in a firm manner, instead of being confused by the provocation and disturbed by the noise. In today’s world, unilateralism is constantly on the rise and international rules are being challenged. Clearly, The Gambia has realized that the legitimate rights and interests of the vast number of developing countries will be seriously harmed if letting go of the situation, thus placing greater expectations on the role of China. Hon. Mamadou Tangara said that “China is the hope to safeguard the multilateral system and the interests of developing countries”. China is ready to work with The Gambia to jointly safeguard the rules of multilateralism and promote the democratization of international relations.
正如中国谚语所言，“一年之计在于春”。王毅在新年伊始访冈，就是要同冈方共商两国未来合作之计。此访旨在落实习近平主席同巴罗总统共识和中非合作论坛北京峰会成果。今后，我们将看到中冈各领域合作进一步全面深化，这些领域包括基础设施、农业、旅游、教育、卫生、文化和国际事务等。
As a Chinese proverb says, “the whole year’s work depends on good planning in spring”. Mr. Wang Yi’s visit to The Gambia took place at the very beginning of the new year, which made a good planning for the future cooperation between China and The Gambia. Mr. Wang Yi’s visit aimed to implement the important consensus reached by President Adama Barrow and President Xi Jinping, as well as the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). In the coming future, we will surely see a much comprehensive China-Gambia cooperation in all fields, including infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, education, health, cultural exchange, international affairs and so on.
冈比亚的一月繁花似锦，绽放的鲜花是热情、希望和力量的象征。我相信，在中冈两国人民的共同悉心培育下，中冈友谊之花一定会绽放更加绚丽的风采。
The blooming flowers in January in The Gambia are symbolic of enthusiasm, hope and strength. I am convinced that with the dedicated cultivation of the Chinese and Gambian peoples, the flower of China-Gambia friendship will bloom with even brighter splendor.
