SECTION A COMPOSITION
How I Deal with Stress
As a student and son for about two decades, I am no stranger to stress. In introspection, the stress I experience is mainly induced by two sources: peer pressure and parents’ expectation. The former constantly reminds me that someone of lay age is more talented and successful; while the latter urges me to live out my parents’ wishful thinking. That is why I have been stressed out in exams, competitions, and various extracurricular activities.
Fortunately, as Nietzsche wisely pointed out, “what does not kill us makes us stronger”. After years of coping with stress, I find out two effective ways to reduce pressure. First, I do physical exercises on a regular basis. I find out that when I run, swim, or hike, I need to focus on the road, breathing, and anything but exams. Exercise provides a timely distraction away from my worries. Second, I talk to my friends and family to relieve stress. Usually, I feel anxious because I take a narrow-minded view of the problem. After sharing my anxiety with my friends and family, I get a new and broad perspective to solve the problem, ultimately reducing my stress.
In conclusion, when we are suffocated by stress, exercise and communication are two healthy ways to take our mind off.
