Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Yu Hong at the Book Donation Ceremony at Seri Mulia Sarjana International School

Dr. Mary Lim, CEO of Seri Mulia Sarjana International School,

Dear teachers and students,

Good afternoon to everyone.

培英学校许嫣缨首席执行官，

老师、同学们，

大家下午好。

It is my pleasure to visit Seri Mulia Sarjana International School. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, I hereby donate 386 books to the school. These books are all introductions to China written in English, covering traditional culture, idiom stories, tales and fables, and learning Chinese language. I believe that these books will help teachers and students of the school to get to know and understand China better.

很高兴到访培英学校。我谨代表中国驻文莱大使馆向学校捐赠386册图书。这些图书用英文撰写，但全部是关于中国的介绍，涉及中国传统文化、成语故事、童话寓言和汉语学习等方面。相信这些图书对培英学校师生了解中国、认识中国发挥积极作用。

Schools are places for educating the younger generation and shoulder the important responsibility of cultivating talents for the society. Seri Mulia Sarjana International School is committed to the education ideals of “No Child Left Behind” and “Equipping students with 21st century learning skills”, which is highly consistent with the philosophy “education without discrimination” and “serve the country and benefit the society” that was advocated by Confucius, the great Chinese thinker from 2,500 years ago.

学校是育人之地，肩负着为社会培养人才的重任。培英国际学校秉持“不让一个孩子掉队”（No Child Left Behind）和“为学生提供21世纪的学习技能”（Equipping students with 21st century learning skills）的育才理念，与2500多年前中国教育家孔子“有教无类”、“经邦济世”的教育观高度契合。

China and Brunei share a long history of exchanges and friendship. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Over the past 30 years, bilateral relations have developed continuously and stood the test of time. I’m sure the convenience and benefit that the China-Brunei cooperation has brought to the general public in Brunei is evident in day-to-day life. The Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine donated by China, the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge with a Chinese enterprise as a co-constructor, the BruHealth app developed by a Chinese company, and the Euro V (five) Standard gasoline produced by Hengyi Industries, a petrochemical joint venture between China and Brunei, are all fruitful results of the friendship and cooperation between our two countries.

中文友好悠远流长，有着悠久的交往历史。今年是中国与文莱建交30周年。30年来，两国关系不断发展并经受了时间的考验。相信大家在日常生活工作中，都能切身感受到中文关系的发展给民众带来的各种便利。中国捐赠的国药疫苗、中国参与建设的苏丹奥马尔·阿里·赛福鼎跨海大桥、中国企业设计的BRUHEALTH应用系统、中文合资企业恒逸石化生产的欧5标准汽油等等都是中文友好、中文合作带来的丰硕成果。

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). On July 1st, China held a grand celebration. The fact that the CPC has grown from a small party of merely over 50 members to the largest ruling party in the world that has long remained in power, is a manifestation of the extensive public support the CPC enjoys in China. Over the past 100 years, the CPC has led the Chinese people to achieve national independence, people’s happiness, and overall strength and prosperity. China has established the most comprehensive modern industrial system, lifted its people out of absolute poverty and made outstanding contributions to the global cause of poverty reduction. China has grown to be the world’s second largest economy and the largest trading country in goods, contributing 30 percent to global economic growth on average every year. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with all countries, and work towards the goal of building a great modern socialist country.

今年是中国共产党建党100周年。7月1日，中国举行隆重的庆祝活动。中国共产党从一个仅有50余人的小党，发展到今天世界最大、长期执政的政党，说明中国共产党得到中国人民的广泛支持。百年来，中国共产党领导中国人民实现了民族独立、人民幸福和国家富强。中国建立了世界上门类最全的现代工业体系，摆脱了绝对贫困，为世界减贫事业做出了突出贡献。中国是世界第二大经济体、第一大货物贸易国，对世界经济增长年均贡献率达30%。中国愿加强与世界各国合作，努力实现建设社会主义现代化强国的目标。

With the fast development and changes taking place in China, the importance of learning Chinese language has become increasingly prominent. By 2019, Chinese language has been incorporated into the basic education systems in 70 countries, and various forms of Chinese language teaching have been offered in more than 170 countries. I am very glad to know that the students of Seri Mulia Sarjana International School are also learning Chinese. This is a far-sighted decision of the school management. I hope that the students learn more about China and become the inheritors of China-Brunei friendship.

伴随中国的发展变化，汉语的重要性日益凸显。至2019年，中文已经进入70个国家的基础教育体系，有170多个国家开展各种形式的中文教学。我非常高兴得知培英学校的学生正在学习汉语，希望同学们多多了解中国，成为中文友好的传承者。
