②过去分词用作定语。

【例】The registered trademark cannot be used by another producer.

注册的商标，另外的生产商不能使用。

抱歉，遗憾

 

①【例】Such a difficulty as you mention in your letter of May 4 is indeed to be regretted.

你方5月4日来信所提到的困难，实是令人遗憾。

 

②regret可用(very) much修饰，(very) much置于regret之前或之后皆可。

【例】We very much regret our inability to do as requested.

我们不能按照你方要求行事，深感遗憾。

 

③可接用动名词。

【例】We regret having to report that we have not yet received the goods ordered on June 14.

必须报告贵方，6月14日所订货物尚未收到，十分遗憾。

 

④可接用that从句。

【例】We regret that we do not handle the sewing machine you mention in your letter of June 25.

很抱歉，我们并不经营6月25日来函所提及的缝纫机。

 

⑤可接用不定式。

【例】We regret to have to complain that you have not yet delivered the goods ordered a month ago.

很遗憾我们不得不在此抱怨，你方尚未运交一个月之前所订的货物。

 

⑥We regret和We regret to say [note, learn, ...]都可接用从句。如果说由于自己的责任而造成憾事时，可用We regret或We regret to say，尽管从意思上讲不能用We regret to say [note...]。

【例】We regret (to say) that we cannot accept your price.

很遗憾，我们不能接受你方价格。

 

⑦【例】It is our regret to be unable to confirm your order.

很遗憾，我们不能接受你方订货。

 

⑧with regret和to one’s regret用作状语。

【例】We note with (great) regret your comment that our recent quotation is a little too high.

我们遗憾地注意到你方关于我方报价偏高的意见。

 

⑨可接用at，for或over。

【例】We feel regret at your failure to cover insurance against breakage.

你方没有投保破碎险，我们感到遗憾。
