①用n作表语。

【例】The price remains an unsettled problem.

价格仍然是个未解决的问题。

 

②用adj或过去分词作表语。

【例】The prices have remained unchanged.

价格仍无变化。

 

③用介词短语作表语。

【例】This agreement shall remain in force for two years.

本协议有效期为两年。

 

④旧式书信中在结束语（complimentary close）之前加用I remain，We remain，I beg to remain之类套语，早已陈腐，不可再用。

②可用现在分词作定语。

【例】If you desire earlier delivery, we can only make a partial shipment of 10 machines in May and the remaining 10 in June.

如你方希望提早交货，我们仅能分批装运，5月交10台，余下10台6月交。

集合名词，无复数形式，前面用the，可按意思用复数或单数动词和代词。

【例】The best we can do is to deliver 60% of the material in September and the remainder in October.

最多我们只能在9月运交货物的60%，其余在10月交货。

补救的，纠正的

 

【例】Since you have not performed the contract, we have the right to demand compensation for losses or to adopt other reasonable remedial measures.

由于你方未执行合同，我们有权要求赔偿损失或者采取其他合理的补救措施。
