difficulty

【1】困难，艰难

 

①【例】We would like to stress that any delay in shipping our order will involve us in no small difficulty.

我们想强调的是，延误装船会给我们带来很大困难。

 

②后面接用in doing sth，其中in往往省去。

【例】Do you have any difficulty (in) pushing the sales of our products?

你们在推销我方产品上有困难吗？

 

③with difficulty困难地，艰难地

仅可作状语，不能作表语。亦用without difficulty表示“容易地”。

【例】We sold the goods, but with difficulty.

我们卖掉了这些货，但卖时很困难。

 

【2】难事，难点，（经济上）困境

 

一般用复数。

【例】The enterprise prospered in spite of money difficulties.

尽管有经济困难，企业还是发展了。

 

【3】in difficulties（尤指经济上）处境困难

 

句式：be in... difficulties。

【例】Without your assistance, we shall be in serious financial difficulties.

若没有你方的协助，我们的经济情况会非常困难。

 

【4】make [raise] difficulties刁难，找麻烦

 

①肯定句中difficulties用复数形式。

【例】The customs officers will make difficulties.

海关官员会找麻烦的。

 

②否定句中make [raise] no difficulties或difficulty都可以。

【例】The customs officers will make no difficulty in customs clearance.

在结关时，海关官员不会找麻烦的。

 

digest

承受，接受

 

【例】Buyers cannot digest [absorb] your price unless it is reduced.

你方价格若不降低，则买主不能接受。

 

digit

（阿拉伯）数字，位（数）

 

①【例】2001 contains four digits.

2001包含有四位数字。

 

②请注意习惯上的有无连字符的用法。可说a three digit [figure] salary, a four digit number，但double-digit inflation。

【例】Double-digit inflation has already hit the country.

两位数的通货膨胀已袭击了这个国家。
