中止，中断，中止使用

 

①接用名词或动名词。

【例】We are discontinuing the new method of packaging with which we have been experimenting.我们要停止使用一直在试验的新包装方法。

 

②接用动词不定式。

【例】As the US dollar is anything but stable, we have discontinued to use it in our dealings.

由于美元很不稳定，在交易中我们已停止使用。

 

discount

【1】折扣

 

①【例】For order of 10 000 sets and more we will give [allow] you a special discount of 2%.

对于10000套及其以上的订货，我们给予2%的特别折扣。

 

②下列括号内的a，有或无都可以。

【例】We are in receipt of your Order No. 1221 with indication of (a) 2% discount.

我们已收到你方注明有2%折扣的第1221号订单。

 

③对什么价格打折扣，可接用off或on。

【例】We propose to turn the whole lot over to you, once for all, with a 20% discount off their list prices.

我们建议一次性地将整批货物售给你方，按目录价打20%折扣。

 

④注意discount与动词的搭配。

【例】They make [allow, give] a discount of 5% off [on] the prices in the catalogue.

他们按商品目录上的价格打九五折。

 

⑤可用作宾语。

【例】Are there any good discount houses around?

附近有好的折扣[廉价]商店吗?

 

【2】贴现

 

【例】We shall lodge a 90-day note in the bank for discount.

我们要把一张90天的期票提交银行贴现。

 

【3】at a discount (of) 打折扣

 

【例】Because of lack of proper packaging, ten percent of our export meat had to be sold at a discount.

由于缺乏适当的包装，我们10%的出口肉类不得不打折扣出售。

 

discourage

使沮丧，阻碍

 

①【例】The official corruption in the region has discouraged investment by foreign companies.该地区的官员腐败已阻碍了外国公司的投资。

 

②宾语后可接用from。句式：discourage + 宾语 + from...。

【例】A protective tariff is designed to discourage foreign businesses from shipping certain goods into the country.

保护关税是专为阻止外国企业向本国输入某些商品而设置的。
