①【例】We feel that a 5% allowance will help the Distributors trade with the African countries.我们认为5%的折扣会有利于经销商发展同非洲各国的贸易。

 

②利用expand的动名词。

【例】We look forward to expanding business relationship in fertilizers and other chemicals with your corporation to our mutual advantage.

我们期望在化肥及其他化学品方面同贵公司发展互利的业务关系。

 

expect     

期待，预计

 

①【例】As expected, the quantity of our orders to be placed will be large.

正如所期望的那样，我们订货的数量将是很大的。

 

②可接用that从句。

【例】It is expected [We expect] that the consignment will be ready for shipment at the end of this month.

预计该货本月底可备好待运。

 

③接用动词不定式，句式：expect to do sth。

【例】We are expecting to hear your comments on this matter.

我们期待着你方对此事的意见。

 

④接用宾语，再加不定式作宾语的补语（有些语法书称此为不定式的复合结构）。句式：expect sb to do sth。

【例】How can you expect us to make a price reduction to that extent?

你怎么能期望我们减价到那种程度呢？

 

⑤可用于被动句，后面接用不定式，即将④中句子的宾语改作主语。句式：be expected to do sth。

【例】We cannot be expected to be liable for the damage. (=You cannot expect us to be...)

（你们）不能要我们对这种残损负责任。

 

⑥有时expect的宾语后可加状语作宾语的补语。句式：expect sth + adv。

【例】We expect a price decline (to happen) later in the month.

我们预计下半月会跌价。

 

expectation 

期望，预料

 

在up to one’s expectation(s)中常用复数形式。

【例】We are grateful for the supply of samples, which are quite up to our expectations.

感谢你方供应的样品，样品很好，不辜负我们的期望。
