extremely

极端地,极其

 

【例】We are extremely grateful for your close cooperation in this transaction.

对贵方在这项交易中所给予的密切合作,我们极其感谢。

注:外贸英语中常用extremely之类的强调副词(intensifiers),其他常用的还有absolutely、completely、badly、definitely等等。

 

eye

【1】眼睛,眼光

 

【例】Our company doesn’t yet exist in the eyes of the law. All this must be done before it becomes a legal entity.

按照法律程序看来,我们公司尚不存在。在公司成为法人实体之前,还应完成这一切。

 

【2】see eye to eye意见一致,看法相同

 

【例】This time I hope we can see eye to eye about the terms of the agency agreement.

这次我希望我们能对代理协议的条款取得一致的看法。

 

【3】set eyes on [upon] 看到

 

【例】We have never set eyes upon such faulty goods.

我们从未看过质量这样次的货物。

 

【4】with an eye to着眼于,打算

 

to是介词,后面接用名词或动名词。

【例】We hope you will make the packing smaller with an eye to convenience.

为方便起见,希望你们将包装改小一点。

 

face

【1】表面,正面

 

【例】The terms and conditions are stipulated on the face and reverse side of our order.

条件规定在订单的正面和背面。

 

【2】in (the) face of在……面前,面对着

 

【例】We think the initial sales of your product will experience a tough and slow process in face of competitors’ established brands.

我们认为,由于名牌货的竞争,你方产品开始销售时要经历艰难而缓慢的进程。

 

【3】面向,面临

 

【例】I’m afraid you’re facing a stiff competition from other suppliers.

我想你们要面临其他供应商的剧烈竞争。

 

【4】be faced with遭遇到

 

【例】As a result of the delay in shipment, we are now faced with great losses.

由于装船延误,我们现在受到很大损失。
