【2】问题，有麻烦等不愉快的事情

 

①经常用单数形式，前面加the。

【例】We are sorry that we cannot give you a definite reply in respect of the above matter.

关于上述问题，很抱歉我们不能给以肯定的答复。

 

②the matter后可加with sth。

【例】What’s the matter with the wording of the contract?

合同的措辞有什么毛病？

 

【3】as a matter of fact事实上，实际上

 

【例】China’s per capita income quadrupled in the past two decades, as a matter of fact.

事实上，中国的人均收人在过去20年间增大4倍。

 

【4】no matter... 不论……

 

①no matter +疑问词（how, what...）。

【例】All these shirts are of the same price. You can choose one or the other, no matter which.

所有这些衬衫价格都一样，你可以选择这种或那种，不管是哪种都行。

 

②no +疑问词（how, what...）引出的短语或从句。

【例】No matter how well made a product is, superior quality by itself is not enough to sell anything.

一种产品无论制造多么精良，单凭其优越的质量是不足以使其畅销的。
