重量单位，简写为lb.，复数简写为lbs.。

①【例】In England sugar is sold by the pound.

在英国，糖是按磅为单位出售的。

 

②复数数字后的pound，多用复数，但少数人用单数。

【例】thirty pound(s) of sugar

30磅糖

 

【2】英镑

 

货币单位，一般指英镑，符号为£。

①£加于数字之前。

【例】Your credit No. 3225 is short of £50.（读作fifty pounds）

你方第3225号信用证少开了50英镑。

 

②£加于有小数的数字之前，如£51.5，读作fifty-one pound(s) fifty (pence)，括号内的字可读可不读。

【例】I’ve spent £25.5 on food today.

今天我花费了25英镑50便士购买食物。

 

③为了区别于其他国家的镑（如埃及镑等），英镑在较正式场合都加写Sterling（简缩为Stg.）。

【例】Amount: Stg. £445.00 (Pounds Sterling Four Hundred and Forty-Five Only)

金额：445英镑

注：括号文字也可以改写与改读为Four Hundred and Forty-five Pounds Sterling only。
