prefer

【1】宁愿，比较喜欢

 

①接用名词。

【例】All grades of cotton are acceptable, but we prefer top qualities.

各种等级的棉花都可以接受，不过我们希望要优质品。

 

在表示“宁愿要A而不要B”时，可用介词to。

【例】We prefer the first grade to the second grade.

我们宁愿要一级品而不要二级品。

 

在AmE中，可用over代替介词to。

【例】Sometimes bank drafts are preferred over checks.

有时候人们宁愿要银行汇票而不愿要支票。

 

②接用动名词。

【例】We prefer packing the goods in wooden cases.

我们愿意用木箱包装该货。

 

在表示“宁愿……而不……”时，两动名词之间可用介词to。

【例】They prefer waiting to buying hastily.

他们宁可等待而不愿仓促购买。

 

③接用不定式。

【例】We prefer to send the documents by airmail.

我们宁愿用空邮送单据。

 

在表示对两个不定式进行选择时，可在后一不定式前加rather than，且省略to。

【例】We prefer to store the goods in a warehouse rather than dispose of them at a reduced price.

我们宁可将该货送交仓库贮存也不愿削价处理。

 

④可接用从句，从句中要用should或虚拟语气现在时。

【例】We prefer that your quotations be CIF San Francisco.

我们希望你方报给CIF旧金山价格。

 

⑤可接用名词或代词再加不定式。句式：prefer sb to do sth。

【例】We would prefer you to issue your L/C as stipulated in the contract.

我们希望你方按照合同的规定开出信用证。

【例】If you prefer, we could leave the price open.

如果你方乐意，我们可以先不确定价格。

更可取的，更好的

 

①【例】It is preferable if you would give us names of the firms and banks with whom you are maintaining business connections.

如能告知同你方现有业务来往的商号和银行的名称，则更为欢迎。

 

②后面可接用介词to。

【例】The first grade is preferable to the second.

一级品比二级品更可取。
