Remarks by Ambassador Wang Xuefeng at the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement in Relation to the Chinese Medical Team to Work in Samoa

各位媒体朋友，
女士们、先生们，

Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning!
今天，我非常高兴出席中国与萨摩亚《关于派遣中国医疗队赴萨摩亚工作的议定书》签署仪式。首先，我谨代表中国驻萨摩亚大使馆向萨摩亚外交贸易部、卫生部以及所有为本议定书的签署做出不懈努力的中萨各界人士表示诚挚的谢意！
It is with great pleasure that I come to attend the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement in Relation to the Chinese Medical Team to Work in Samoa. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as well as all those, both from China and Samoa, who have made consistent efforts which has made the signing of this agreement a reality.
本议定书签署后，中国将很快向萨摩亚派遣第15期医疗队。本期医疗队为期两年，共分四批轮换来萨，每批6名医生，他们全部来自中国吉林省，有着良好的诊疗技术和丰富的工作经验，将在萨国家医院的神经外科、泌尿外科、创伤骨科、心内科、眼科、内分泌科、皮肤科、耳鼻喉科、病理学、心脏科、肾科、内科和急性护理等萨医院急需的科室为当地民众提供服务。
After the signing of this agreement, the 15th Chinese medical team will soon be dispatched to Samoa by the Chines Government to work at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital. This medical team from Jilin Province of north China will be sent in four batches in the course of two years, with each batch comprising of 6 medical professionals. The Chinese medical team will provide professional medical services in the Department of Neurosurgery, Urology, Traumatic Orthopedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology Dermatology, Otolaryngology, Pathology, Nephrology, Internal Medicine and Acute Care and other departments respectively.
中国医疗队除了提供诊疗服务外，还将开展临床交流和培训，定期开设讲座和研讨会，为相关医学院校学生教授课程，加强与萨方医务人员的交流，协助萨医院主要科室的能力建设。同时，每年向萨卫生部和医院捐赠一批药品、器械和物资。
Besides medical services, the Chinese medical team will also provide clinical training, lectures and seminars for both staff members of the hospitals and medical students of the universities so as to help the capacity building of the relevant departments of the hospitals. During the two years, the Chinese medical team will also provide a certain amount of medicine, equipment, and relevant materials to Ministry of Health of Samoa.

Ladies and gentlemen,
自上世纪80年代开始，中国政府就向萨摩亚派出援外医疗队，义务为当地患者提供各类医疗服务，受到萨民众的热烈欢迎。截至目前，中国已累计派出14支医疗队，大约100名中国医生在萨各类医院工作。除了长期医疗队，中国政府还定期派出短期医疗队，如广东省中山大学中山眼科中心眼科专家每年来萨摩亚，无偿为萨患者进行白内障复明手术，使多名白内障患者重见光明。中国政府还援建了萨国家医院。去年，中国政府还组织了多个妇女儿童医护人员培训班，邀请萨医生、护士赴中国交流和培训。
The cooperation in the medical field between China and Samoa has a long history and has achieved fruitful results over the years. Since 1980s, Chinese government has started sending medical teams to Samoa to provide voluntary medical services to Samoan people. Up to now, altogether nearly 100 medical professionals of 14 medical teams have worked in various hospitals in Samoa. In addition to these medical teams, Chinese government has also sent medical teams on short-term medical tours to Samoa. For example, in recent years, the ophthalmologists from Zhongshan Ophthalmologic Center of Sun Yat-sen University of Guangdong Province came to Samoa each year to perform free cataract surgeries on local patients and help them regain their sights. Chinese government also provided aid in building Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital. Last year, dozens of Samoan doctors and nurses were invited to attend medical training programs held in China.

Ladies and gentlemen,
中萨两国在医疗卫生领域的合作互补性强，前景广阔。我衷心希望，以本议定书的签署为契机，两国医疗卫生领域的合作能再上一层楼，结出更丰硕的成果。
There’s still a lot more we can do in cooperation in the medical field between China and Samoa. I hope with signing of this agreement, there will be more and more fruitful results in our cooperation which will bring more and more tangible benefits to Samoan people.
