Remarks by Ambassador Wu Xi at the Reception in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Founding of the People’s Republic of China Held in Niue

Ladies and gentlemen,

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the Constitution Day of Niue, we gathered together here in the beautiful island nation of Niue. I would like to take this opportunity to express my congratulations to Niue on the occasion of Constitution Day, and thank the Government of Niue for its support of this reception and the Niuean people for their warm Pacific hospitality.
值此中华人民共和国70华诞以及纽埃宪法日之际，我们来到美丽的纽埃，并特别邀请了从北京远道而来的中国交响乐团音乐家们，为纽埃人民献上一场交响乐，与热情淳朴的纽埃朋友共同庆祝中华人民共和国成立70周年，并表达我们对中纽关系美好未来的祝福！
October 1st this year marked the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Over the past seven decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people, with perseverance and strenuous efforts, have stood up, becoming confident, prosperous and stronger. Chinese people’s living standards have improved dramatically. We have lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty over the past four decades alone.
今年10月1日，是中华人民共和国70岁的生日。70年来，在中国共产党的领导下，中国人民同心同德、艰苦奋斗，彻底改变了近代以后100多年中国积贫积弱、受人欺凌的悲惨命运，迎来了从站起来、富起来到强起来的伟大飞跃，取得了令世界瞩目的伟大成就。中国人民的生活水平得到极大提升，中国7亿多农村贫困人口在过去40年里成功脱贫，占同期全球减贫人口总数的70%。
China has gone from being a poor and backward agricultural country, to being the world’s second-largest economy, largest industrial manufacturer, and largest trader of goods. China has made remarkable scientific and technological advancements. These span many fields, from manned space flight and lunar exploration to quantum science, deep-sea exploration, supercomputing and satellite navigation.
中国从一个贫穷落后、一穷二白的农业国家,跃居成为世界第二大经济体、最大的工业生产国和最大的货物贸易国，在载人航天、月球探测、量子科学、深海探测、超级计算机和卫星导航等高科技领域也取得显著进步。
China’s development over the past seven decades has also allowed us to make great contributions to world peace and development. We are responsible for more than 30% of recent global economic growth, making China the main engine and stabilising force of the world economy.
70年来，中国在自身发展的同时，也为世界的和平与繁荣做出重要贡献。中国对世界经济发展的贡献率已超过30%，成为全球发展的引擎和稳定器。
China is now an architect of world peace and a guardian of the global order, contributing wisdom and strength to the promotion of world peace and prosperity. China’s diplomacy advocates building a new type of international relations – one grounded in fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, creating an open, inclusive and sustainable world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.
中国是世界和平的建设者和国际秩序的维护者，用中国智慧、中国方案和中国力量推动世界和平繁荣。中国外交倡导共赢共享，秉持公道正义，坚持平等相待，追求建设持久和平、普遍安全、共同繁荣、开放包容、清洁美丽的世界。
The ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative aims at infrastructure connectivity, policy coordination, unimpeded trade, financial integration and close people to people exchange. It is of increasing global significance, with far-reaching implications for international relations and steering human society towards a brighter future. China will continue to hold up the banners of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, and keep firmly to the path of peaceful development. We will stay committed to opening-up and working with people from all countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind, and to create a world defined by peace and development.
“人类命运共同体”理念和以“一带一路”倡议为代表的一系列治理主张具有世界意义，正在对国际关系带来深远影响，并推动人类社会向着光明目标不断前进。中国将继续坚持和平发展道路，奉行互利共赢的开放战略，继续同世界各国人民一道推动共建人类命运共同体，共创美好未来！
Over the past 12 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Niue, bilateral relations have progressed well, with ongoing and constructive cooperation across fields such as fisheries and tourism. Ring road upgrade supported by China is progressing steadily, and we have achieved tangible results in international and regional affairs through close and trusting communication.
中国和纽埃建交12年来，双边关系健康、稳定、积极发展，在渔业、旅游等各领域合作不断深化，中国援纽环岛公路升级项目正稳步推进，中纽在国际和地区事务中沟通顺畅，取得丰硕成果。
Last November, President Xi Jinping met with leaders from eight Pacific countries, which have established diplomatic ties with China, in Papua New Guinea. All the leaders unanimously agreed to upgrade their relationships with China to a comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect for common development. President Xi also met with Premier Toke Tufukia Talagi. The leaders reached an important consensus on mutually beneficial cooperation, one which has added new energy to the development of bilateral relations. China appreciates Niue’s long-term adherence to the One China policy and is ready to work with Niue to implement the outcome of the meeting between the two leaders to further advance China-Niue relations.
去年11月，习近平主席在巴布亚新几内亚与建交太平洋岛国领导人举行会晤，一致同意将中国与建交岛国关系提升为相互尊重、共同发展的全面战略伙伴关系。习主席还与塔拉吉总理举行了双边会见，就两国互利合作达成重要共识，为双边关系发展注入了新动力。中方赞赏纽埃政府长期坚持一个中国政策，愿同纽埃共同努力，积极落实两国领导人会晤成果，推动中纽关系不断向前发展。
Here in Niue and across the Pacific, one of the greatest challenges facing island countries is climate change. China attaches great importance to the special concerns and legitimate demands of Pacific island countries in combatting climate change and has supported island countries to strengthen regional cooperation. China is firmly committed to the Paris Agreement on climate change and will fulfill the domestic goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to Pacific island countries through South-South cooperation to help them improve their capacities in combatting climate change, and support island countries to bring more ‘Pacific Voice’ in the multilateral process of climate change.
中国始终秉持“真、实、亲、诚”理念发展同包括纽埃在内的太平洋岛国关系，特别是在气候变化等领域加强同太平洋岛国间合作。气候变化是太平洋岛国面临的最大威胁。中方对太平洋岛国在气候变化问题上的合理关切和特殊诉求感同身受，一直支持岛国加强区域合作，在气候变化多边进程中发出“太平洋声音”，并在南南合作框架下为岛国提升应对气候变化能力提供力所能及的帮助。中方理解和支持纽埃关于气候变化方面的关切，愿进一步加强同包括纽埃在内的太平洋岛国在相关领域的对话和合作，维护好发展中国家共同利益，为推动构建人类命运共同体注入正能量。
This year, we successfully launched the ‘China Pacific Tourism Year 2019’. Today, the China National Symphony Orchestra made a special trip to perform for the Niuean people. This is another example of closer cultural exchanges between our two countries, demonstrating the common expectation of our two peoples for a better future. China stands ready to work with Niue to promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields for the benefit of our two peoples and to make positive contributions to the prosperity and development of the region and beyond.
中纽两国于今年成功举办“2019中国——太平洋岛国旅游年”。此次中国国家级交响乐团专程而来为纽埃人民演出，正是两国密切人文交流合作的又一例证，表达了两国人民所共有的对美好未来的期待。我们愿与纽方携手努力，推进各领域务实合作，造福两国人民，为本地区和世界繁荣与发展做出积极贡献。
Ladies and gentlemen，China today is being created by the hands of hundreds of millions of Chinese people, and the friendly relationship between China and Niue is being created by the hands of all of us here today. China is looking forward to an ever brighter future，and I am certain China-Niue relations will continue to grow and usher in ever greater prosperity!
女士们，先生们，中国的今天正在亿万人民手中创造，中纽的友好关系也正在我们的手中创造；中国的明天必将更加美好，中纽和平繁荣的未来也必将更加美好！
I believe that the results of our fruitful relations will deliver strong and genuine benefits for the people of China and Niue!
我相信，中纽两国人民将共享甘甜硕果！
