使能够，使成为可能

 

①接用表示行动的名词，句式：enable sth。

【例】Please e-mail the L/C amendment at once to enable shipment in September.

请立即发电子邮件来修改信用证，以便9月份能够装船。

 

②常用的句式：enable sb to do sth。

【例】The punctual shipment of the goods enabled us to place them on the market just ahead of the season.

准时交货正好使我们能在季节到来之前将货物投放到市场。

 

③常用so as to enable sb to do sth作目的状语。

【例】Please confirm your acceptance of our new price so as to enable us to mail our contract.

请确认接受新价，以便邮送合同。

 

④有时也用enable的现在分词短语作目的状语，分词前可用或不用thus，即：(thus) enabling sb to do sth = (so as) to enable sb to do sth。状语前常用逗号与句子隔开。

【例】Please amend the L/C as early as possible, enabling us to effect shipment.

请尽早修改信用证以利交货。

 

enact

制定（法律），颁布

 

常用于被动语态中。

【例】Antitrust laws are enacted to keep a cartel from being set up.

为防止卡特尔的建立而制定了反垄断法。

 

enclose, inclose

把……封入，把……附在信中，随函寄去

 

①【例】It gives us great pleasure to enclose the catalogue for which you asked in your letter of May 3.

我们高兴地随函寄上你方5月3日来信所要求的目录。

 

②下例两种时态皆可用，含义相同。

【例】We enclose [are enclosing] a price list for our exportable items.

随函寄上我方可供出口商品价格表。

 

③常接用with或in，间或接用into。

【例】They enclosed our letter with [in] their own.

他们将我们的信附在他们自己的信中。

 

④herewith = with this letter，herein = in this letter。它们若与enclose同时使用（如下列例句）含义重复，最好删去。

【例】For your information, we are enclosing (herewith) a photostatic copy of our letter dated July 12.

随函寄去我方7月12日信的影印本一份，请参考。

 

⑤过去分词作表语时，常用倒装句式。

【例】Enclosed are 2 copies of our price list.

随函附上我方价目表两份。

 

⑥过去分词enclosed还可用作定语和名词的等价词。

【例】Please quote us for the supply of the items listed on the enclosed enquiry form, giving your prices CFR Lagos.（定语）

请按随函所附询价单开列的项目报来拉哥斯成本加运费价格。

 

⑦下列句式中enclosed用作宾语的补语。这些句式有人认为已陈旧，可是仍有不少人使用。

【例】Enclosed please find [Please find enclosed, Enclosed you will find] one copy of the relative L/C opened by our bank.

随函寄去我方银行开立的有关信用证副本一份，请查收。
