【1】目的

 

①【例】We regret that we cannot use the goods supplied for our purpose.

所供货物不合我方用途，很遗憾。

 

②较旧的书信，常用下列开头句（opening sentence）：

【例】The purpose [purport, object] of this letter is to inform you that…

此函的目的在于奉告贵方……

 

【2】serve one’s purpose合乎……目的[要求]

 

【例】As the Agency Agreement fails to serve its purpose, we have decided not to renew it upon expiration.

由于该代理协议未能起到应有的作用，我们决定在期满后不再延续。

 

【3】打算

 

可接用不定式或动名词。句式：purpose doing [to do] sth。

【例】By this letter we purpose to inform [informing] you that the relative L/C has been established.

我们愿告知你方，有关信用证业已开出。
