【1】理由，原因

 

①【例】For some reason or other that firm would turn to China for purchases of textiles.

由于某种原因，该公司打算转向中国购买纺织品。

 

②后面可接用for。

【例】This is the reason for the decline in the market.

这就是行市下跌的原因。

 

③后面接用不定式时，reason可用作可数名词或不可数名词。

【例】We have every reason to believe that we could effect delivery within a month.

我们完全有理由相信，我们能够在一个月内交货。

 

④可接用从句（多用why引出）。

【例】We see no reason why this order should be cancelled.

我们看不出有什么理由要撤销此订单。

 

⑤The reason is because... 是口语。

【例】Sales have increased more than 20%. The reason is because our sales force has been more aggressive this year.

因为今年我公司的销售人员更富有进取精神，销售额已增加了20%以上。

有人认为这种英语不好，书信中应避免。上例可改为：

Sales have increased more than 20%. The reason is that our sales force has been more aggressive this year.

【例】We are giving you this 30 days’ prior notice in writing to terminate our distributorship agreement and reserve our right to claim damages by reason of your breach of this agreement.

我们现以30日前书面通知终止经销协议，但由于你方违约而造成的损害，我们保留索赔的权利。

 

reasonable

【1】（价格）公平的

 

【例】Present available prices are perfectly reasonable.

当前市场价格十分公平合理。

 

【2】合理的，好的

 

【例】Such being the case, we must be assured of reasonable commission.

既然如此，我们必须获得保证能得到合理的佣金。

 

reassure

【1】使放心，消除顾虑

 

可接用about。

【例】We reassured the buyer about the punctuality of shipment.

我们消除了买方关于装船不准时的顾虑。

 

【2】再向……保证

 

可接用of。

【例】We wish to reassure you of our readiness to cooperate with you in all respects.

我们想向贵方再次保证，我们愿同贵方在各方面进行合作。
