①多用作不可数名词；有时用作名词单数，即前面加a。

【例】There is (a) need for extra caution when you make payment.

付款时必须特别谨慎。

 

②后面可接用for。

【例】There is no need for amendment to the L/C.

没有必要更改信用证。

 

③后面可接用of。

【例】We thank you for your offer and will bear it in mind, should we have need of such equipment at any time.

谢谢你方报盘，若需要这种设备时，我们定考虑此报盘。

 

④有时后面可接用不定式。

【例】There is no need to continue working (on) the offer.

这一报盘，没有必要继续进行工作了。

①need前可用urgent、great、bad等形容词修饰。

【例】We are in urgent [great, dire] need of goods.

我们急需该货。

 

②be badly in need of = be in bad need of。

【例】Please arrange early shipment of this repeat order, as we are badly in need of the goods.

由于我们急需此重复订单的货物，请安排早交货。

 

【4】需要

 

①【例】Our customer is now urgently needing the goods.

我方客户正急需该货。

 

②可接用不定式。

【例】It needs to be mentioned that the L/C should reach us 30 days before the month of shipment.

需要提出的是，信用证应于交货月份前30天开到我方。

 

③有时与require相同，可接用动名词，该动名词含有被动的意义。

【例】This contract needs signing [to be signed].

这份合同需要签字。

 

④过去分词可用作定语。

【例】We cannot pay the claim until you supply us with some needed information.

在你方提供所需要的资料之前，我们不能偿付索赔的款项。

用单数形式，前面加the。

【例】If you agree to do so, please advise us immediately so that we may do all the needful.

如蒙同意，请立即函告以便做好一切准备。

 

needless

【1】不必要的

 

【例】It’s needless to send them any catalogues.

没有必要将目录寄给他们。

 

【2】needless to add不再补充，当然

 

多用于句首，做全句的状语。

【例】Needless to add, we are not liable at all for this delay.

当然，延误的责任不在我方。

 

【3】needless to say不用说，当然

 

实际含义和用法与needless to add相同。

【例】Needless to say, such details as price, payment, etc. will be decided according to the specific circumstances of each transaction.

不用说，价格、付款等之类的细节要按每笔交易的具体情况确定。
