【1】准备；计划；安排

 

①习惯用复数。

【例】Please make arrangements for opening the L/C on time.

请准备按时开出信用证。

 

②近年来有使用单数的情况。

【例】We shall make an arrangement to ship the goods in July.

我们安排在7月装船。

 

【2】（行为等的）商定

 

【例】The price of types is a matter of arrangement.

轮胎的价格是可以商谈决定的。

 

【3】（办法等的）商定；约定

常用单数。

 

【例】We have an arrangement with our bank by which they collect the money for us.

我们已与银行商定，由他们代我们收款。

 

【4】come to some [an] arrangement 达成协议；取得谅解

 

①【例】We hope to come an arrangement with you on the question of agency.

我们希望能在代理问题上与你方商妥解决办法。

 

②构成动名词使用。

【例】We shall be pleased to discuss the possibility of coming to an arrangement with you.

我们乐意与你方商讨达成一项协议的可能性。

 

arrear

 

【1】（过期未付的）欠款；尚待完成的工作[任务]

常用复数。

 

【例】There are no arrears of orders.

已没有订单尚未执行。

 

【2】in arrears 拖欠

 

【例】They are two monthly payments in arrears.

他们已有两个月该付的账款拖欠末付。

 

【3】into arrears进入拖欠[延误]状态

 

【例】They are falling into arrears with their payments.

他们正在拖欠别人的款项。

 

arrival

 

【1】到来；到达

 

【例】The goods have long been ready for shipment, but owing to the late arrival of your L/C, shipment cannot he effected as stipulated.

货物早已备好待运，由于你方信用证迟到，不能按合同规定时间装船。

 

【2】到货

 

【例】Buyers are holding off in view of large arrivals.

由于有大量到货，买主正在犹豫观望。

 

【3】after (the) arrival of 在……到达后

 

【例】You may count on us to effect shipment immediately after arrival of your L/C.

你们可以相信，我们收到信用证后就会立即装船。

 

【4】on [upon] arrival (of)，on [upon] one’s arrival在……到达后

 

①【例】On arrival of the goods, you will find them to your satisfaction.

货物到达后，你们就会对货物感到满意。

 

②on [upon] arrival of与after arrival of意思近似。前者有“在……到达后，马上就……”的意思，一般不再用时间状语修饰；而后者设有“马上”的含义，可再用immediately，within 30 days等时间状语修饰。
